It is also during this period of the year that typhoons bring heavy damage to Japan every year.
Typhoons bring strong winds and heavy rain.
Please learn the words related to typhoons so that you can recognize typhoons in the weather forecast.
- Taifu (Typhoon): Tropical cyclone in the Northwest Pacific or South China Sea with maximum wind speed within the low-pressure area of approximately 17 m/s or higher
- Bofu (Storm): Wind of 20 m/s or higher
- Mouretsu-na-kaze (Violent Storm): Wind of approximately 30 m/s or higher, or of maximum instantaneous wind speed of 50 m/s or higher
- Bofu Keiho (Storm Warning): Warning issued when serious disasters are expected to occur due to storms
- Oame Keiho (Heavy Rain Warning): Warning issued when serious landslide or flood damages are expected to occur due to heavy rain
- Kozui (Flood): Overflow of water out of a normal river channel into its riverbed or further into the outside of its bank due to an abnormal increase in water level or flow rate of the river
