Wakayama Foreign Residents Support Mail【Vol.48】
Improve your awareness for disaster preparedness
Natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunami can happen unexpectedly and cause serious damages. However, you can minimize the extent of damage by preparing for disasters beforehand.
First, take measures inside your house to prepare for disasters.
Consider where to place furniture assuming it will inevitably fall over in the event of a large-scale earthquake.
Avoid placing furniture in bedrooms, children's rooms, etc. if possible.
In the case of large furniture, make sure it is placed and positioned in a way that it will not injure anyone or block doorways. Also, make sure that it is secured to the wall.
In addition to furniture, there are many other items that can break or fall over, such as window glass, lighting, refrigerator, television, microwave and oven. Examine what items are in each room and take measures to prepare for when an earthquake strikes.
