Wakayama Foreign Residents Support Mail【Vol.33】
◆ Prepare supplies for disasters.
In the event of a large-scale disaster such as an earthquake, the supply of electricity, gas, and water may stop and it may be difficult to obtain food. Keep supplies of food, water, and daily necessities in stockpiles at home so that you can provide for yourself in the event of a disaster. Prepare stockpiles for your family for at least three days or preferably for one week. Also, stockpiles should be kept on a rolling stock (i.e., consumed and replaced on a regular basis) to be prepared wisely.
*Useful items to keep in your home as stockpiles
- Food, drinking water
- Blanket, sleeping bag
- Batteries
- Knife, scissors
- Portable cooking stove, gas canisters
- Private power generator
- Plastic wrap
- Blue tarp
- Plastic containers
- Newspapers
- Candles
- Packing tape
- Toiletry goods
- Toilet paper
- Portable toilet
- Water for daily use (plastic container filled with tap water)
*If you fill the bathtub with water, you can use it to flush the toilet, etc.
