Therefore, tsunami can arrive immediately after the occurrence of an earthquake in Wakayama Prefecture. Actually, earthquakes and their subsequent tsunami have caused serious damage to Wakayama in the past. As the probability of a magnitude 8-9 class earthquake occurring within the next 30 years is 70-80%, it is very important to be prepared for a large-scale disaster that is sure to occur someday.
Japan Tourism Agency introduces a disaster information application called "Safety tips" that notifies a user of information on earthquakes, etc. The application is available in multiple languages including Japanese, English, Chinese, Filipino, and Vietnamese. Please install it in your smartphone.
